Although summer won’t officially begin for another two months, summer weather has certainly made an appearance. Thoughts of beach time, barbecues, basking in the sun, and, of course, baseball, come to mind.
John and Joe are both avid baseball fans. John is a loyal Phillies Phanatic, and Joe is devoted to the Chicago Cubs. Still reveling in the Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship AND commemorating the fact that the Cubs played their first game at Wrigley Field on April 20, 1916, Toscano’s invites you to join us tonight.

For those whose baseball memories do not reach back to 1906, that was the year that the Cubs had a winning percentage of .763, the highest in MLB history. Much of the credit for this winning streak was given to the double play combo of Shortstop Joe Tinker, Second Baseman Johnny Evers, and First Baseman Frank Chance. This threesome played together from 1902 to 1912 and was immortalized in the 1910 poem by Franklin Pierce Adams:
Baseball’s Sad Lexicon
These are the saddest of possible words:
“Tinker to Evers to Chance.”
Trio of bear cubs, and fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance.
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double –
Words that are heavy with nothing but trouble:
“Tinker to Evers to Chance.”
(Just in case you ever appear on Jeopardy! and are asked who was the forgotten Third Baseman on this team, the answer is….. Harry Steinfeldt.)
